Evolution of Hoverboards – A Brief Guide

evolution of hoverboards

Over the past few years there has been a huge increase in the number of hoverboards being purchased. In this article we take a look at the evolution of hoverboards, from early days to the present day, where they remain a popular gift for kids and adults alike.

The idea of hopping on a flying board called “hoverboards” is far from reality for now. The 1989 movie Back to the Future Part II has shown us how cool it would be to ride these skateboards that float. In the meantime, we may have to settle for hoverboards with wheels.

Also known as “self-balancing scooters”, hoverboards currently available in the market does not fly. Instead, it has 2 parallel motorised wheels and controlled by your 2 feet. But like the real hoverboard, it does require balance and coordination to run. Although this is not the type of hoverboard we expect to see because of the name, these personal transport devices are fun to use.

Birth of the hoverboard

In 2013, Shane Chen, owner of an American company Inventis, filed a patent for this personal transport device. He launched a fund-raising campaign via Kickstarter a few months after for the hoverboard brand Hovertrax. This patent was later bought out by Mark Cuban and the rest was history.

In the first year of its manufacture, a lot of defects were found in hoverboards. Its overheating Lithium Ion batteries has caused many incidents of fire and casualties. The danger posed by these hoverboards resulted in a major recall from its Chinese manufacturers.

Even with its bad publicity due to the dangers of exploding batteries, hoverboard manufacturers still enjoyed brisk sales. Until then the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) hammered down all hoverboard manufacturers to pass the set of rules on safety requirements or face the consequence of seizure or recall for non-compliance. The safety guidelines submitted by a testing and certification company Underwriters Laboratories has become the basis for CPSC’s recall or confiscation of boards that did not pass its tests.

Evolution of Hoverboards

The CPSC’s crackdown on low-quality and unsafe hoverboards have filtered a lot of its manufacturing companies. Due to strict standards, importation of these boards coming from China reputable hoverboard manufacturers are now moving into new designs, far different from what hoverboards look like when it first came out.

With the development of the self balancing scooters, innovation began to take place. What used to be a toy for kids is now a device for recreation even for adults. This has now become a favourite personal transport device for people of different ages. As part of its evolution, these are some of the improvements in hoverboards which changed its image from simply a toy to a recreational device:

Hoverboard Tyres

evolution of hoverboards

When the first hoverboard came out, early models came with either 6.5 inches or 7 inches. Nowadays, with the evolution of hoverboards, when you shop around for scooters you are given 3 options on tyre size:

  • 6.5 inches / 7 inches – this is what the original hoverboards have when it was introduced. The sizes of these tyres are enough for kids to drive these scooters. It also makes the hoverboard light enough for the child to carry.
  • 8 inches tyres – it’s a mid-sized tire which allows the hoverboard to carry a heavier load than the ones with smaller tyres. If the smaller tyres do not give you the hype, you can choose a hoverboard with tyres of this size.
  • 10 inches tyres – These tyres can be great for recreation. Not suitable for kids, hoverboards with this size of tyres can be heavier. These hoverboards can be used on any terrain as the tyres are made of solid rubber.
  • Batteries – overheating Lithium-Ion has caused an alarm to hoverboard users. Because of the risks of an explosion which put lives and properties in danger, researchers have found a way to fix the battery issue. A team of Stanford chemical engineers has come up with a breakthrough. They were able to develop a Lithium-Ion battery which shuts down automatically when it overheats and starts again by itself when it cools down. Although this is not yet commercially available, we can expect to see safer hoverboards in the near future. In the meantime, the government’s action taken on unsafe and low-quality hoverboard was already an important milestone in the evolution of these scooters.
  • Control features – one of the reasons why hoverboards became a craze is its unique control system, apart from other personal transport devices. It does not have a handle but instead, a foot pad which was used to steer its direction. With the continuous development of hoverboards, some models now come with either a knee-high control bar or even a seat. New components are now being added on hoverboards to make it easier and more fun to ride.
  • Motor – ever since the hoverboard was created, manufacturers have continuously developed its motors. The motor is one of the most important components of the hoverboard because of the fact that it is used for transport. New models in the market now offer faster, more powerful engines and can carry a heavier load compared to its predecessors. No wonder this became popular for adults as well.

What does the future hold for hoverboards?

The next generation of hoverboards is probably on its way. Lexus attempted to develop a real-life hoverboard which floats on air through magnetic levitation. Other designers are also finding ways to produce a real hoverboard. As the evolution of hoverboards continues, hoverboard designs are getting better through the years. Who knows what comes next after these improvements.

And maybe just one day, we might see ourselves stepping on the real hoverboards like what Marty McFly did and realise that we are definitely into the future.

Hoverboards For Kids – Things To Consider

Hoverboards For Kids

Over recent times hoverboards for kids have been a popular gifts. In this article we take a look at things to consider when choosing a hoverboard for your little ones.

It used to be skateboards, but ever since the hoverboards or “self-balancing scooters” came out in 2015, kids are going crazy over these toys.  So hoverboards for kids, where do I start? It’s not really the flying board popularised in the Michael J Fox’s movie Back To The Future Part II.  This hoverboard does not even fly.  It’s actually a two-wheeled, motorised personal transport device that works just by using your feet.  In other words, it’s a motorised scooter with articulated boards that control the direction and speed.  Leaning forward makes it speed up and backward if you want to slow down. It also has pads on top, which you would twist to control the direction.

It was not exactly clear who really owns credit them for creating this device, but it was so awesome that every kid wished to have one on Christmas.  No wonder this scooter topped the list for the hottest selling item during the holiday season of 2015.

Thinking of buying the hoverboard you have seen online?

Before clicking the buy button online, it would be best to check out the details of your chosen hoverboard first. That is to make sure that you’re buying the right stuff for your little one.

Here are a few things that you may want to consider before buying the hoverboard:

Your kids will be the ones who will use the hoverboard.  As parents, you would only want the best for them, right?  If there’s one thing that you need to think about when buying the hoverboard, it should be safety first. To keep off the worry of risks once they ride their scooters, it would be best to ask yourself these questions first even before getting one:

Consider your child’s age when choosing a hoverboard. Ask “What type of hoverboards would be best for them?”

Considering your kid’s age is important when choosing a hoverboard.  The recommended age for kids to use a hoverboard is 6 years and higher. Young children below the recommended age may still be unable to control the force beneath these boards which may result in hurting your little one.  Also, children 6 years old up to the teenaged ones are already able to adapt and learn the operating these scooters.

Is your child’s weight appropriate for the hoverboard he/she will use?

When choosing a hoverboard for your kid, observing the maximum limit is as important as that of the minimum limits.  Hoverboards carrying more than the maximum limit can be worn out the tires faster and may not have the same speed as what you expect.  On the other hand, if your kid’s weight falls below the minimum weight, the child might not be able to control this and fall off. It would be best to check the manual or the manufacturer’s website to know exactly what the limits are.  These limits are meant to protect the rider –  your child.

Is your child ready to ride?

Consider your child’s ability to adapt before buying one. When using a hoverboard, reflexes, balance, and coordination are very important, regardless of the age.  If you think that your kid may need a longer time to learn it than others, you can still get one for them.  However, make sure that you allocate more time in guiding them on their learning curve until you are confident that they can make it on their own.

Are they already aware of the restrictions?

All kids want is to have a hoverboard and roll out to the streets alone or with their friends. However, they might not be aware of the places where hoverboards are not allowed.  Before buying them a hoverboard, it would be best to discuss with them where they are and are not allowed to use their hoverboards It includes airports, schools busy streets among other.

What do you know about the hoverboard you’re buying?

Despite the popularity of hoverboards, there are also risks that you will have to consider in regard to your child’s safety. Reports of fires caused by exploding batteries have caused a lot of concerns that the government has to recommend a recall of many of these hoverboards in order to protect the lives and properties of the consumers.  Even Amazon stopped selling these devices until the manufacturers can prove that their products are safe.

For your child’ safety, check for the certifications of these hoverboards first. Before buying the hoverboard of your choice, check if there is a UL mark on the box.  If you see the marking, it means that the brand is UL 2272 certified for safety.  It is highly recommended to only buy those brands to make sure that your kids are safe when they use it.

Also, you may want to check the quality of its components such as the tires and the articulated pads to ensure that the hoverboard would be sturdy enough for your kids to use. This would also guarantee that the hoverboard would last a long time.  Choose the ones that give you value for your money and not just for the sake of buying it for your kids.

Does the brand matter?

Deciding on the brand is an important factor to consider. When searching online for hoverboards for kids, feel free to read all the reviews which could give you a clue of how these brands are. News reports and public advisories are also great resources that can warn you about the brand names that you need to avoid.  For your child’s safety, do your homework.

Hoverboards are probably the coolest device ever invented. For your kids, it’s not only a toy but an innovative way to travel short distances or share moments with their friends. Since these scooters are personal transport devices which can take them anywhere, it is the parents’ responsibility to know how safe these are for their kids.

In addition to all the safety precautions out there, the best way to protect your kids from any risks is to know about the products beforehand.  In doing this, you can be sure that the product you are buying will be the best for them.

Another benefit of getting a hoverboard is enjoying time with friends who also have these scooters.  Ever since its popularity surged, everyone wanted to get their hands on it.  And most probably friends bought their own as well.  If they did, then it would be fun to take the opportunity to ride around with them on the streets or wherever it is allowed.
  1. Spend precious time with your kids. Taking the time out with your loved ones is probably the best gift you can give them.  If your kids got a hoverboard last Christmas and you got yourself one too,  then moving around with them on your own hoverboards could the best chance to bond. It’s these kinds of moments that you would want to share time with your little ones and make them feel special.
  1. Improve your Reflexes, Balance, and Coordination. Riding a hoverboard the first time is not really difficult as you may have thought. This requires patience while learning how to make it work, though.  When using a self-balancing scooter, you need to learn how to balance and be able to stand upright on the board.  Also, your reflexes have to be responsive enough to deal with the speed and the turns. With constant practice, you should be able to roll out on the streets with ease in no time. And as you get the hang of it, you may notice it that you are also improving your balance, coordination, and reflexes.

Taking Care of Your Hoverboard

Now that you are enjoying the benefits of having a hoverboard, you would want to maintain it in its best condition so you can use it for a very long time.

In order to keep your scooter in tiptop shape, here are some tips which you may find helpful in maintaining it:

Battery Maintenance

5 Benefits You Can Get From A Hoverboard

  • Read the manual and make sure to follow all instructions
  • Never charge the battery unattended
  • Do not charge the battery overnight
  • Just use the charging cord that came with the product
  • Be aware of the extreme temperature which could affect your battery
  • Stop using the scooter if it overheats. This could be a sign of a battery problem.

Care for your tyres

5 Benefits You Can Get From A Hoverboard

  • Keep it clean from grease or mud. Cleaning the dirt off you tires can actually save your scooter from mechanical problems.  The mud or grease stuck on tires might find its way into your motor and circuit board, and eventually, damage your scooter.
  • Always check the alignment of the wheel with the wheel shaft. It not only ensures your riding safety but ensures your scooter to work perfectly well.
  • Observe recommended weight for your hoverboard. Scooters’ weight limits may vary depending on the type.  If you are using a hoverboard with a wheel size of 6.5 to 6.7 inches, keep in mind that it can only carry up to 30 lbs.  Overloading will not only be worn out your tires faster, you would not also enjoy the ride since it cannot pick up speed because of the weight.
  • Know where you can only use your hoverboard. It is advisable to use the scooter only smooth floors.  If you really want to try out other terrains, there are new versions of a hoverboard which is equipped with bigger wheels. Nevertheless, it would still be best if you will use your hoverboard on pathways where the tires will not easily get damaged – and where it is legal.

Keep your hoverboard dry

  • There is no hoverboard that is waterproof. You may have seen some scooters claiming to be waterproof with the rating of IP54. The fact is, based on the IP Code, a hoverboard’s protection is only good for water spray.  If you happen to have this type of scooter with such rating, it would still be best not to run through wet roads and puddles if you want to prolong your scooter’s life.

Safety Tips And Guide When Buying A Hoverboard

safety tips when choosing a hoverboard

In this article we take a look at safety tips when choosing a hoverboard.

The self-balancing scooter or “hoverboards” quickly gained popularity when it came out in 2015. This two-wheeled skateboard-like transport device was indeed an amazing product ever invented. What’s great about these scooters is that it allows the rider to move around and control it without any handles at all.

Soon after the hoverboard was introduced to the market, it quickly became a craze worldwide, which made people rush to the store to get one.  This was in part, thanks to the many celebrities who endorsed these scooters as they use it.

Sadly, complaints about exploding batteries and questions about the safety began to pop-up.  Residential fire, injuries, and casualties caused by overheated Lithium Ion batteries raised serious concerns about the safety of consumers.

Safety Tips When Choosing A Hoverboard & The Risks

Are you thinking of buying a hoverboard anytime soon? With so many choices available in the market today, you may have to do your homework first. Safety should be the first thing to consider if you want to get one.

We have listed a few tips here which you might find useful when choosing for the best hoverboard for you:

Check for Safety Certifications

Despite its popularity, hoverboards gained a bad reputation for safety risks.  Complaints about overheating batteries began to mount causing fire and even death.  The Consumer Product Safety Commission reported more than USD 2 million damages on properties from December of 2015 to February of 2016 all related to hoverboards.

These tragic events were attributed to substandard Lithium Ion batteries which had overheated while being charged.

To address the risk with these scooters, the government has implemented drastic measures to prevent more damages or casualties it may bring in the future. In order to protect the public from risks of getting hurt or killed due to these hoverboards,  the CPSC came up with a list of brands that are potentially hazardous.  A warning was also issued to advise consumers to stop charging and using these hoverboards because of the risk.

To help you choose which products are safe, Underwriters Laboratories (UL) has tested and certified a few hoverboards which do not pose any danger to its consumers.  UL, by the way,  provides safety testing and certification for companies and approved by the US Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). UL2772 is the certification issued by  UL for personal e-Mobility devices such as the hoverboard.  If you want to be sure about the safety, we highly recommend looking for the UL mark on its packaging. This should show a holographic label from UL. You should also see a UL mark at the bottom of your hoverboard.

You can also check out their website https://www.ul.com/hoverboards/ if you want to know more about UL2722 certification.

Choose on functionality

There are different types of self-balancing scooters nowadays. Typically, these scooters run on 2 wheels with a footboard for control.  As you check the types, you may discover other scooters which may be totally different in their designs and functions.

The typical 2 wheel hoverboards

These were the first hoverboard designs that came out.  The scooter has two wheels and a foot pad. To operate, you just lean forward to go faster or backward to slow down.  Twist the foot pad left or right to turn.

The Unicycle

There is another type of self-balancing scooter which is available on the market today. Although it only has a wheel to run, the functionality compared to the 2 wheel type is almost the same. The price of these scooters may be a bit higher than that of the two wheels.

If you want to get more out of a self-balancing scooter, you can check out the type which also has 2 wheels but comes with a knee control bar.  This was developed and sold by one of the top brands in the hoverboard industry.

Personal Safety When Using A Hoverboard

Safety for Kids

Hoverboards were designed as a personal transporter and require balance to operate.  If you are buying these scooters for your kids, you need to be sure that they will be safe as they go. Not all hoverboards are appropriate for children.  If you are buying the best one for your kid, consider the following safety measures as well:

  • Choose hoverboards with wheels measuring 6.5 inches or maybe smaller. These scooters are easier to manoeuvre and lighter to carry.
  • Make sure that the one you choose for your kid is certified for safety.
  • Although it is recommended that the child be at least 8 years old to ride a hoverboard, it would be better if you would consider other factors such as the weight, ability to balance, coordination, etc.
  • Safety gears are very important for kids.  A helmet should be the minimum whenever they would use their hoverboards.  It is also highly recommended that they wear other protective clothing such as safety pads to cover their knees and elbows.
  • Always monitor your kids whenever they use their scooters. This way, your kids are guided to avoid accidents and be there in case something happens and they need your help.

Hoverboard Safety for Adults

If you are getting one of these scooters for yourself, keeping safe is very important as well.

  • Ensure that the scooter you’re buying has the relevant certification.  As what we keep saying, poor quality hoverboards can really pose a threat to lives and properties.
  • Wear a helmet.  Just like any other transport devices, a helmet can save from serious injury in case of a fall.
  • Check the manual to know more about the safety measures of their scooters.  Factors such as the rider’s age, weight, etc should be taken into consideration

Whether you are buying a hoverboard for yourself or as a gift for your kids, try to shop around first and research about the different options out there.  With so many designs and features, deciding which product to choose would be really hard. Also, keep in mind the safety of yourself or your children by checking if the scooter is guaranteed to be tested and safe.  A UL2722 mark on the packaging would be your best bet when you want to be safe.

What You Need To Know About Hoverboards

what you need to know about hoverboards

If you are looking into buying a hoverboard, then take a look through our guide on what you need to know about hoverboards.

What Is A Hoverboard?

what you need to know about hoverboardsHoverboards are personal transporters equipped with a pair of motorized wheels attached to a foot board.  These devices are also called self-balancing scooters because riders are able to move around in any directions even if it does not have a handle attached to it.

To operate a hoverboard, you will just have to turn the device on and put your feet on two articulated pads found on top of the board. Once you are ready to go, you can lean forward to speed up or backward to slow down.  For the direction, you can easily turn left or right just by twisting the pads.

What makes up a hoverboard?

A hoverboard is made up of different electronic parts but for brevity, we will just discuss a few items. Just to give you an idea of what’s inside your scooter:

  • First, it has a pair of motorized rubber wheels These wheels are designed to carry a rider with weight of up to 120 Kg or 55 Kg. The wheels’ motor is connected to the foot board or articulated pad which controls the direction and speed of your scooter.
  • The most important part of the hoverboard is the gyroscope and sensor pad. This are the control parts of the scooter. The gyro is responsible to keep you balanced while in transit and the sensor pads makes your scooter move directions. Since it only has two wheels and no handle, it would be impossible to operate the hoverboard without these components.
  • And lastly, a fender to cover your wheels, in case you come acoss a muddy or wet floor.

How Does A Hoverboard Work?

Hoverboards run on rechargeable lithium-ion battery packs. Recharging time varies depending on the model of your scooter.  Most manufacturers recommend 3 hours of charging, but just to be sure, always check the manual.

In regards to the speed, a typical hoverboard can go up to 6 mph. However, you may still have to consider the weight of the rider as well.

How long does a hoverboard battery last?

what you need to know about hoverboards

Depending on how fast you go and the distance you travel, a hoverboard’s battery life may vary. On the average, you should be able to run approximately 8 miles with your hoverboard on a flat surface in a single charge. Again, it’s best to read the manual to see the actual charging information of your hoverboard.

Where Did Hoverboards Came From?

It’s not really clear where these self-balancing scooters started.  As we searched for the history of this amazing board, we found out that a business man named Shane Chen filed a patent in the US for the device in 2013.

Chen’s company Inventix was enjoying the success with their hoverboards, patented as Hovertrax, until manufacturers in China, particularly from the Shenzen Region, also began to produce similar products. This lead to Chen filing suits against these companies. In April 2015, Ninebot, one of the manufacturers of hoverboards in China, acquired Segway Inc. In order to resolve the patent issue. The company claims that it holds the patent for self-balancing scooters  On the same year, Mark Cuban purchased the Hovertrax patent from Chen.

From the first year it was sold, hoverboards was a hit and became one of the hottest products in the market. This self-balancing scooter became so popular, thanks to the endorsements by many celebrities like Justin Bieber, Jamie Foxx, Kendall Jenner, Chris Brown, Soulja Boy and Wiz Khalifa

How come it was named “Hoverboard”?

Naming these scooters “hoverboard” has sparked many discussions about the use of its term. It’s kinda weird as the term was first used in a 1989 film “Back to the Future Part 2” which described  as a “skateboard-like device that floats above the ground”.  The concept of this fictional device can be traced back to a science fiction novel by M.K Joseph in 1967.

In 1999, the term “hoverboard” was first used a commercial name which refers to a wheeled scooter.

Advantages and Disadvantages

Using these self balancing scooters has its own advantages and disadvantages.  Before getting one, you can check a few pros and cons which we have listed:

Advantages

  • It’s lightweight and easy to carry. Most of the hoverboards come with a bag to make it easy for you to carry anywhere.
  • Ease of travel. Scooters were designed to transport people for a short distance.  Once you learn how to use these self-balancing boards, it will be easier for you to move around faster than just by merely walking.
  • Cost Efficiency. Since these scooters runs on rechargeable batteries to move you around, you will only have to plug it in and you’re ready you use it again. As we said earlier, a single 3 hour charge of your scooter is already sufficient for a short travel of 8 miles.
  • Many choices. The influx of these scooters in the market offered many choices which may work to your advantage. There are a lot of options now which allows you to choose the best hoverboards for you based on quality, budget, performance, availability of spare parts, etc. You only need to be keen on every detail of each option as their features may vary.

Disadvantages

  • Keep in mind that these scooters run on two wheels and does not have a handle to hold on.  Although it has its own balancing feature using a gyro, the rider still need to practice operating this device.  As with any other transport devices, it’s best to wear safety gears such as a helmet and protective pads like knee guards, elbow pads and wrist protectors.
  • Risk of battery overheat. Hoverboards run on Lithium Ion batteries. These battery packs are highly at risk of overheating, therefore, caution is advised.

Hoverboards or self-balancing scooters are indeed very popular because of its functionality.  These devices not only offers a fun way to move around, it also helps you travel faster, even for just a short distance.  However, when using these transport devices, always keep in mind all safety measures in order to enjoy its benefits. Have fun!

Taking Care Of Your Hoverboard

3 Tips On Taking Care Of Your Hoverboard

As with any new purchase, it is important you are taking care of your hoverboard. This is so that you can be assured of maximising the enjoyment of using it. A hoverboard is no different to any other electronic device that you may purchase. After all, they can be very expensive and therefore you want to make sure you are taking care of your hoverboard and not wasting your hard earned cash!

We have taken the time to provide a brief overview on ways of keeping your hoverboard in tip-top condition.

Storing Your Hoverboard

Whilst we understand that most people love using their hoverboards continuously, a time will come when you need to put it away.

Storing your hoverboard in a safe place to prevent damage…..or your sibling/wife/husband using it! Due to the way a hoverboard is manufactured and its important internal workings, it is important that you are storing your hoverboard in a clean, dry space.

It is not advisable to store your hoverboard in a garage for example. Due to moisture in the air, you run the risk of your hoverboard becoming damp, a big No! No! On the flip side of this, be mindful of storing in a dry space, where dust may occur. Leaving a hoverboard for a prolonged period of time, where dust has gathered can mean your hoverboard’s performance is compromised.

Cleaning Your Hoverboard

Cleaning?!! Really??

Yes we know that nobody likes cleaning. However if you want your hoverboard to be reliable and have the performance you expect, you are going to have to keep it clean.

Before you have a melt down, cleaning your hoverboard is a pretty simple task. From time to time, you are going to experience dirt on your hoverboard, due to the close proximity with the ground. The easiest method of cleaning your hoverboard would be with a wet wipe, where you can simply wipe the outer part effortlessly.

Don’t forget to check over the wheels, to make sure they are free of any dirt. As the wheels are located within a casing, it is not always easy to spot. A small brush is an ideal tool to use, when cleaning the wheels of your hoverboard.

A Quick Guide On How To Use A Hoverboard

If you are looking for advice and guidance on buying hoverboards, we have compiled a short guide on how to use a hoverboard.

The Technical Stuff!

  • They are battery operated and can be recharged from the mains using a power adaptor supplied when purchasing
  • Depending on the model purchased, you can expect to fully charge a hoverboard within 8 hours.
  • Most models of hoverboards will have a display showing how much charge is remaining
  • The rear of the hoverboard is where you recharge and also switch on the power button

When first using a hoverboard it is worth trying indoors and ensuring you have a clear and flat area.

First Time Using A Hoverboard

Using a hoverboard for the first time can seem daunting, so it is highly recommended to gain support to assist with balance. Holding onto another person is one good way to help you with your first few times of balancing on a hoverboard.

One best method of using a hoverboard is to place one foot on at a time, ensuring that your feet are centred on the board. You need to ensure that your toes and heels are overhanging the hoverboard, adopting a wide stance.

Hoverboards have a lighting display that identifies once someone is stood on the board. The sophisticated technology of the hoverboard will be able to provide balance based on your positioning and weight. It is not uncommon for the first few attempts of using the hoverboard to be a bit shaky! As with most things, practice makes perfect!

Having gained balance – you now need to be moving on the hoverboard. This process is fairly straight forward, but only the minimum of movement is required. When wanting to travel forwards on the hoverboard, simply tilt your ankle forwards. To move backwards your heels need to be tilted slightly backwards. Moving left or right is done by moving your toes on the corresponding foot, depending on your chosen direction.

Once you are confident is manoeuvring, try picking up some speed. This can be done by simply having your toes down on both feet. For a complete spin around, have your toes pointing down on just one foot.

Of course moving backwards and forwards is great……but at some point you are going to need to know how to stop! When you are travelling and want to come to a stop, slowing the hoverboard is done by having your heels down on the board.

When going over uneven or small bumps, bend your knee slightly to absorb the impact. However, you will not be able to go over curbs. If you feel you are going too fast or want to stop, you can slow down by pressing your heels down.
